Uber goes green at Mumbai International Airport, rolls out on-demand EV rides with ‘Uber Green’


Uber, India’s leading ridesharing app, today announced the launch of its flagship EV product, Uber Green with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) being the first location in Mumbai to offer the service. Accelerating sustainable mobility in India, Uber now offers on-demand electric vehicle (EV) rides with Uber Green, allowing riders to enjoy eco-friendly transportation options with a simple tap on the app.

Uber Green will be currently available for passengers requesting a green ride to and from the Mumbai Airport. The new service will be available at a dedicated pick-up zone at Terminal 2 at Mumbai International Airport, and across various parts of Mumbai, ensuring that a wider range of passengers can contribute to reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable mobility throughout the city.

By offering on-demand electric rides, we aim to provide a convenient and zero-emission transportation option for our riders in Mumbai, taking a major step forward in our electrification journey.”

The airport recently achieved the Highest-Level 4+ “Transition” of Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program of Airport Council International (ACI), making it only the 3rd airport to achieve the esteemed certification in the Asia-Pacific region. By providing passengers with the option of on-demand EV rides, we are collectively taking significant strides towards sustainable transportation and carbon emission reduction in the city. This launch aligns with our vision of promoting eco-friendly mobility and reinforces our commitment to creating a more sustainable and environmentally conscious Mumbai.

As Uber paves the way for a greener future, it remains dedicated to providing reliable and affordable transportation options to riders while minimizing the impact on the environment. With Uber Green set to roll out to other cities, riders can now travel sustainably, contributing to a cleaner and healthier planet for all.

Uber has committed to become a zero-emissions mobility platform by 2030 in Europe and North America, and globally by 2040. On sustainability, Uber has more than tripled the number of electric vehicles on the platform and connected 31 million unique riders with a ride in an electric vehicle in 2022. EV drivers on Uber are going electric 5X faster than the general public and even faster in places like London, highlighting the potential for the ridesharing industry to accelerate the transition to electrification. The Science Based Targets Initiative has also approved Uber’s near and long-term science-based emissions reduction targets, making us one of the first 30 US-based companies to have such targets approved.

How to book an Uber Green Trip:

  1. Open the Uber app and enter your destination in the ‘where to’ box

  2. Select Uber Green at the bottom of the screen

  3. Review the booking details including the price for the trip and tap Confirm Green

  4. Enjoy your ride
